Your visa options

482 – Temporary Skill Shortage visa

This visa allows businesses to sponsor skilled workers to stay for up to 2 or 4 years. The visa holder can only work for the sponsoring employer in an approved occupation. There may be a pathway to permanent residency, usually after 3 years if the visa holder remains in the nominated occupation for the same employer.

400 – Temporary Work (Short Stay Specialist)

This visa is for people with specialised skills, knowledge or experience undertaking short- term work in Australia. The visa is generally approved for 3 months but a maximum of 6 months may be considered if the application is supported by a strong business case.

407 – Training visa

This visa allows people temporary entry to Australia for up to 2 years to participate in occupational training or professional development with the aim of improving your skills for your job.

408 – Temporary Activity Visa

This visa allows people to come to Australia on a temporary basis to participate in an endorsed activity, such as:
  • Work in the entertainment industry
  • Participate in activities at the invitation of an australian organisation
  • Participate or observe in an australian research project
  • Work in a skilled position under a staff exchange arrangement
  • Participate in high-level sports competitions or sports training programs (Soccer players, rugby league players, sports coaches, international jockeys etc)
  • Do full-time religious work
  • Be employed as a superyacht crew member
  • Do full-time domestic work in the household of certain senior foreign executives
  • Participate in a government endorsed event.
